The TROPOMI (Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument) instrument on board the Sentinel 5P satellite measures atmospheric trace gases, aerosols and cloud parameters. The trace gases observed are: sulphur dioxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and methane. With global observations, we can use these to provide information on sources and transport of these gases for national greenhouse gas emissions budgets.
The high spatial and temporal resolution and fast delivery of data allows generation of health alerts for citizens, for example. Pollution due to daily traffic can be observed and tracked, along with aerosols and trace gases following volcanic activity
